ALEX G. MYERS APPOINTED DAWSON COUNTY CHIEF MAGISTRATE JUDGE
DAWSON AND HALL COUNTIES

Alex G. Myers has been appointed as Dawson County's new Chief Magistrate by the Superior Court judges of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, effective April 24, 2023. Judge Myers will fill the unexpired term of Anthony Tarnacki, who recently announced his resignation from the bench.

Judge Myers has served as a Magistrate Judge since July 2020 and looks forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Dawson County as the court's chief. He is a 2018 graduate of the Mercer University School of Law, where he was a scholarship recipient and member of Law Review. He also holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. Prior to joining the bench, he served as an attorney with the city of Cumming.

"We're delighted to see Judge Myers continue in his career as a public servant." stated Chief Superior Court Judge Kathlene F. Gosselin. "Magistrate Court serves a critical role in our justice system, and it was important to all of us that the next chief be someone with a demonstrated work ethic, conscientious, and possessing the requisite skills and experience."

Judge Myers and his wife, Audra, reside in Dawsonville with their young son, Grayson. He is an active member of the Dawson County Rotary Club and a long-time volunteer with Georgia YMCA's Y-Club program. Magistrate Court has jurisdiction over all civil claims of$15,000 or less; distress warrants and dispossessory actions; county ordinance violations; bad checks; preliminary hearings; arrest and search warrants; andĀ certain misdemeanors. Magistrates also set bail in many criminal cases. The Dawson County Chief Magistrate is assisted by part-time magistrates, Judge S. Kevin Barger and Judge Amanda H. Yenerall. Judge Tarnacki also plans to continue to serve on a part-time, weekend basis.

Judge Myers' appointed term will extend through December 31, 2024, at which time a newly-elected judge will take office for a new four-year term.
