Biography
Kathy Gosselin was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Southern Illinois University, as well as the University of Chicago Law School. She first came to Georgia in 1980 and practiced law in Gainesville from 1981 until 1987, at which time she was elected to the Hall County State Court. She presided in State Court from 1987 until 1998, when she was appointed by then Governor Zell Miller to the Superior Court of Hall and Dawson Counties. She continues to run unopposed since her first election in 1986.
Judge Gosselin has served on both the Council of State Court Judges and the Council of Superior Court Judges as their President. Additionally, she has served on a number of committees concerning the advancement of the administration of justice namely, the Governor’s Commission on Family Violence, Georgia Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, and the Georgia Supreme Court Professionalism Committee. Judge Gosselin also previously served as the Chair of the Council of Superior Court Judges’ Uniform Rules and Legislative Committees.
In addition to overseeing civil and criminal matters in the courtroom, her current responsibilities are Judge of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, Chair of the Council of Accountability Court Judges’ Funding Committee, as well as serving on the Executive Committee of the CACJ. Judge Gosselin presides over the Northeastern Judicial Circuit HELP/Mental Health Court (since 2004) and felony Veteran’s Court (since 2014).
She is an active member of the community and enjoys giving back to its citizens through various assignments. She has served on the boards of Gateway House, Gainesville Community Foundation, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Gainesville Rotary Club, and Good News at Noon. Judge Gosselin is a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
